Automatically Restart StrandVision Digital Signage

Automatically log into Windows when you reboot your computer

When looking for a way to log into StrandVision on your dedicated Windows digital signage player computer, here is an article from Microsoft at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315231. It describes the different steps to automatically launch programs and communications (including StrandVision Digital Signage). This process works for Microsoft Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. It involves editing the Registry, so be sure to make a backup before you begin.

If the PC loses power, StrandVision restarts your digital signage player pc or Microsoft installs patches and reboots your Windows PC, you can now have the PC automatically log into your Windows user account and restart StrandVision--without user interaction.

Start by creating a local Windows user account that will be used for installing StrandVision in the future. Install StrandVision normally.

Then, follow the steps below:

As the admin user, you can use Registry Editor to add your log on information. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, right click on the found value and select run as administrator.
  2. Locate the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
  3. Using your account name and password, double-click the DefaultUserName entry, type your user name, and then click OK.
  4. Double-click the DefaultPassword entry, type your password under the value data box, and then click OK.
  5. If there is no DefaultPassword value, create the value. To do this, follow these steps:
    • In Registry Editor, click Edit, click New, and then click String Value.
    • Type DefaultPassword as the value name, and then press ENTER.
    • Double-click the newly created key, and then type your password in the Value Data box.
  6. If no DefaultPassword string is specified, Windows XP automatically changes the value of the AutoAdminLogon registry key from 1 (true) to 0 (false) to turn off the AutoAdminLogon feature.
  7. Double-click the AutoAdminLogon entry, type 1 in the Value Data box, and then click OK.
  8. If there is no AutoAdminLogon entry, create the entry. To do this, follow these steps:
    • In Registry Editor, click Edit, click New, and then click String Value.
    • Type AutoAdminLogon as the value name, and then press ENTER.
    • Double-click the newly created key, and then type 1 in the Value Data box.
  9. Quit Registry Editor.
  10. Start, click Restart, and then click OK.

After your digital signage player computer restarts and Windows starts, it will log on automatically and start your digital signage.
